The North Bay Police Service is teaming up with local McDonald’s restaurants for a rewards-based program for kids.
The goal of the ‘Small Fries for Small Fries’ initiative is to encourage children to practice bicycle safety and make a positive impact on their community.
Under the program, officers on bike patrol will be carrying coupons for free small fries, milkshakes or ice cream cones that can be used at the local McDonald’s locations.
Officials say kids seen wearing a bike helmet, walking it through a crosswalk or doing positive things like picking up garbage or helping others will be rewarded with a coupon.
“We’re happy to help our police force recognize and develop safe practices in our community,” says Dan MacWhirter of McDonald’s restaurants North Bay.
City police Inspector Jeff Warner says it’s always wonderful to see positive community initiatives like this take shape.
“Thanks to the proactive work of our bicycle patrol officers, we have been able to bring McDonald’s and the North Bay Police Service together to improve bicycle safety among North Bay’s youngest residents and encourage them to be active members of their community,” Warner says.
The initiative was spearheaded by members of the North Bay Police Service’s bicycle patrol.
