Working alarm credited with limiting damage after fire at Atlas Copco

Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders is crediting a working alarm system at the Atlas Copco facility for limiting damage after a fire broke out today. North Bay fire crews dealt with the fire at the facility on Ferris Drive around mid-day. The cause of the fire was a mechanical failure, and the total damage is estimated at $50,000.

Saunders says the alarm system worked properly, which alarmed on-scene personnel so they could safely evacuate the building. The early notification also allowed the fire department to activate quickly, so they could mitigate the damage caused. Saunders says timely notification when fires break out lets crews arrive on-scene early enough to suppress and limit the damage caused.
