OFM highlighting holiday safety

On the first day of Christmas, Ontario’s Fire Marshal (OFM) gave to me… the first of a dozen safety tips.

Their annual 12 Days of Holiday Fire Safety campaign is underway to remind Ontarians to take proper fire safety precautions and stay fire safe this holiday season.

It covers everything from tree watering to smoke alarms, extension cords, candles, home fire escape plans, and more.

“This time of year is bittersweet for the fire service as we continue to see an increased number of fatal fires during the months around the holidays,” says Ontario Fire Marshal Jon Pegg. “Prevention is the best way to stay fire safe and by making fire safety a priority, you can avoid unnecessary disaster.”

The video campaign features testimonials and fire professionals from across Ontario, including Callander.

Videos will be shared across social media, with the following topics:
December 12: Holiday lights
December 13: Tree watering
December 14: Candles and decorations
December 15: Smoke alarms
December 16: Carbon monoxide alarms
December 17: Extension cords
December 18: Kids in the kitchen
December 19: Home fire escape plans
December 20: Cooking
December 21: Heating sources
December 22: Smoking
December 23: Lithium-ion batteries
