Revitalization plans in the works for former Gathering Place Gardens

It may be buried in snow right now, but Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay will be revitalizing the former Gathering Place Gardens.

Officials say the group plans to adopt out raised gardens for a “grow a row, give a row” program to various marginalized groups in the community, host community planting days, workshops, youth programs and more.

“We’re incredibly excited to continue the legacy of this garden,” says Hariett Madigan, Chair of Clean, Green, Beautiful. “This space has long been a source of fresh produce, connection, and learning for the community, and we’re looking forward to growing that impact.”

Madigan says they will honour the roots of the garden, while planting seeds for the future.

“I’m pleased to see this new lease agreement move forward,” says Deputy Mayor Maggie Horsfield, who also serves on the Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay board. “While the garden has long supported important food programs, Clean, Green, Beautiful’s plans build on that history and create even more opportunities for the community to get involved. I’m excited to see what’s ahead.”

The gardens are located at the corner of Algonquin Ave. and McLaren Street.
