Queen’s kicker crowned Mitchell-Avery Award winner

Queen’s University kicker Tyler Mullan has been named the Mitchell-Avery Award winner for his contribution and success in football.

The North Bay Sports Hall of Fame says Mullan began his kicking career at Widdifield Secondary School before transferring to St. Joseph- Scollard Hall in Grade 10, competing in high school football until the spring of 2022.

At Queen’s, rookie season accolades included being named an OUA All-Star, OUA All-Rookie Team member, and a First Team All-Canadian. He was also awarded the Gael’s Alfie Pierce Trophy, for Varsity Rookie Male Athlete of the Year.

In his four years at Queen’s, Mullan kicked 54 field goals on 63 attempts, for 86%, and was a perfect 126/126 in conversion attempts during regular season play.

This past season, Queen’s won the Yates Cup, defeating the number 1-ranked Laurier Golden Hawks 30-27.   Mullan contributed with three field goals and three converts, good for 12 points.

The hall says Mullan has 297 regular season points in his career, 37 shy of the school record, which he’s looking to break next year.

He will receive the local award at the 45th Annual Induction and Awards Dinner on Saturday, May 2, at the Davedi Club.

Tickets can be purchased through Larry Tougas at 705-303-8104. Tickets are also available at the Davedi Club by calling 705-474-4190.
