Newest Heritage Plaque Unveiled

The North Bay Municipal Heritage Committee has unveiled its latest Heritage Site Plaque at the North Bay Jail.

This plaque discusses the history of the previous detention facility, which led to the construction of the current Jail and the most famous event to take place at the facility, the escape and recapture of Donald Kelly.

The Heritage Site Plaque Program was launched in 2010 with the initial installation of five plaques. Other plaques have been installed annually. The plaque recognizing the Jail is the 23rd plaque installed through this program.

North Bay’s Municipal Heritage Committee advises City Council on matters pertaining to heritage conservation while working closely with council and various municipal departments. North Bay’s
Municipal Heritage Committee is made up of members of the general public, along with a representative from the North Bay Society of Architects and a member from the North Bay Museum.
