Since Friday, the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police says it has investigated 30 motor vehicle collisions.
The majority of the collisions were single-vehicle collisions caused by the vehicles being driven too fast for the conditions.  Minor injuries were reported in some collisions. Here is a break-down of the collisions:
- four collisions involving deer
- 20 single-vehicle collisions
- six two-vehicle collisions
- one impaired driver charged
- one charge of no insurance
- one charge of drive left of centre on a curve
The OPP says officers found that some of the vehicles involved in the collisions had summer tires. Summer and all-season tires don’t work the same on snow, ice or cold pavement. The tread compound used in all-season tires offers little cold weather traction and becomes hard, losing pliability and traction in freezing temperatures. Winter (snow) tires, however, are designed to help deliver safety and control in snow, slush, rain, ice and cold weather.
