Downtown break-ins a priority for NBPS

“We’re hoping to clear a large percentage of the break and enters that happened over the last two months in the community.”

This from Deputy Chief Scott Tod in giving a snapshot of crime stats in North Bay from December 2018.

Tod says, “We’ve made a number of arrests in the month of January for occurrences that happened in December and we have a number of good, positive leads for some of the other break and enters.”

After a recent rash of break and enters in the downtown core, Tod says the North Bay Police Service’s members “need to concentrate heavily within the community on that criminal activity.”

“We were up from 10 occurrences in December of 2017 to 17 in December [2018] and we’ve seen in January an increase in break and enters also,” Tod says. “A number of downtown businesses have been broken into, not just once, but twice.”

Despite the rise in break-ins, Tod, who will take over as Police Chief once current Chief Shawn Devine retires in June, says he is pleased with the clearance rates of crimes such as sexual assault and assault.
