Both vessel operators charged in fatal Lake Joseph crash

MUSKOKA LAKES, ON- Both parties have been charged after the fatal crash on Lake Joseph in August.

According to a news release from the OPP, 56-year-old Linda O’Leary of Toronto is facing a charge of careless operation of a vessel, and will be appearing in provincial court on October 29 in Parry Sound.

Linda is the wife of celebrity businessman Kevin O’Leary, who was a passenger in the couple’s boat at the time of the incident.

Richard Ruh, 57, of Orchard Park, New York, has been charged with failing to exhibit a navigation light while underway.

Ruh’s charge is under the Canada Shipping Act, which is a federal responsibility. Due to that federal responsibility, the Public Prosecution Service of Canada will be managing the court process.

Gary Potash, 64, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident off Emerald Island on Saturday, August 24.

Suzana Brito, a 48-year-old mother of three who lived in Uxbridge, Ontario, passed away in hospital on August 27.
