Rota looks back at 2019, with an eye on the future

MP Anthony Rota feels like 2019 was a great year for the Nipissing-Timiskaming riding, while 2020 is shaping up to be a good one as well.

“The nice thing is over the last four years, we have invested more than $210 million dollars in 609 projects across northern Ontario,” Rota said. “When you look at that, that’s an increase of $62 million dollars to Fednor’s budget alone.”

“When you look at Nipissing-Timiskaming, with the $210 million in 10 ridings, if we got $21 million, we should have been ok,” Rota continued. “We’re looking at almost $35 million to this riding and the surrounding areas which works out really well.”

North Bay, in particular, is set to benefit from that as there are new businesses coming into the area. Rota says companies such as Norgalv, which is building at the airport’s industrial park in April, and Canada Meat Group.

That’s not all, says Rota.

“Transit was bumped quite substantially across the riding,” Rota stated. “Premier Mining also received $980,000 to get a new rod manufacturing cell, which will put North Bay above the others.”

“These are creating jobs and gets the economy going and bringing people to North Bay,” he adds. “At the northern Ontario mining showcase, Prospects and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC), there’s a northern Ontario pavilion which is the largest at the show. What happens is people know about northern Ontario, they know about Nipissing-Timiskaming, which will be very good for the riding.”

On a personal level, Rota says the highlights of 2019 include being re-elected as MP for the riding for his fifth term, along with being elected as Speaker of the House of Commons.
