Health Coalition ‘rises up’ for long-term care

The North Bay Health Coalition is calling on the province to take action with several issues around Long-Term Care.

A small group gathered outside of MPP Vic Fedeli’s office at noon on Monday.

Henri Giroux, a health coalition member, says the event coincided with several others across the province.

“We were supposed to go to Queen’s Park but because of COVID we can’t all be there together, so what we tried to do was have rallies across Ontario,” he says.  “We have some demands for the government and we want to make sure that the government takes care of Long-Term Care.”

The theme is #RiseupforLTC and Giroux says they have several demands.

“Immediate action on fast-track increase of care levels and staffing to meet the resident care needs.  We’ve been fighting for that for a long time and it’s time for them to actually do it,” he says.

Other demands include enforcement of care standards through reinstating annual surprise inspections and more, ending for-profit Long-Term Care and ensuring the human rights of Long-Term Care residents are upheld.

Giroux says they’re asking the province to take action now.
