North Bay’s new council sworn in

The work starts now for North Bay’s new council.

After being sworn in Tuesday night, Mayor Peter Chirico used his inaugural address to say council is excited about what they’re about to embark on and will get things done.

He says there are a lot of issues before them, including budgets that need to be moved forward, but that’s not all.

“Homelessness, drug problems and all of those initiatives that we are going to look at, we are going to tackle.  I expect we’re going to set up some special taskforces on various issues, bring together the expertise that we have on council to be able to lead that and say to our citizens at the end of this term ‘we accomplished this.”

In his speech, Chirico also touched on making city hall more transparent, reviewing services for taxpayer value, reimagining downtown and more.

He says they may have disagreements and debates but they’re ready to represent the entire community and move forward, working together as a team.

“I think that we’ve got the nucleus of a really enthusiastic group, they’re excited, they want to do things, they want to make change happen,” he says. “What that change is going to be, that’s going to evolve over these four years.  That’s what we’re going to do and that’s my job is to lead this council.”

Along with thanking council’s families, friends and supporters, Chirico also recognized former Mayor Al McDonald and the outgoing council for the work that they’ve done.

The first regular and committee meetings of council are scheduled for next Tuesday.
