Flood watch issues for Lake Nipissing Shoreline

A Flood Watch has been issued for the Lake Nipissing Shoreline in North Bay and in Callander.

The North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority issued it late yesterday afternoon. Flood duty officer Angela Mills says water levels and flows are high in most areas in response to last week’s rain, adding Lake Nipissing has increased by a foot since April 12. She adds water levels on the Ottawa River in the Mattawa area is expected to stabilize but remain high, with flows and levels decreasing in most other areas.

Local creeks such as Chippewa and Parks will be impacted due to the high water levels, and the authority is reminding everyone to keep children and pets away from watercourses and shorelines, all while continueing to monitor conditions.
