Increase in military vehicles expected in the area this weekend

You might see an increase in army vehicles on various roads between North Bay and Ottawa this weekend, including Highways 11 and 17.

The military says Canadian Army Reserve personnel from 33 Service Battalion are taking part in convoy and supply operations training.

Exercise OWL PERCH runs from April 19-21 and officials say soldiers involved in the training will not be carrying any weapons or ammunition.

“This important training supports year-round preparations for emergencies in Canadian communities, including natural disasters like flooding and wildfires, as our members prepare to deploy in response to Requests for Assistance and to serve alongside community members and other first responders,” states a release.

Officials say all measures are being taken to ensure minimum inconvenience during the exercise dates.

They’re also asking the public to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles.
