Nipissing University receives federal research grant

Nipissing University is getting federal money with the aim of conducting   ground-breaking research.  It’s been given almost $354,000 to analyze organic molecules.  Part of the grant will also be applied to a human evolutionary laboratory.  Nipissing Timiskaming MP Anthony Rota announced the funding which is from the Canada Foundation for Innovation program.  Rota says the funding will help the school increase its reputation for academic excellence.   Doctor Steven Arnocky heads the human evolutionary lab while chemist Doctor Mukund Jha and psychology professor Doctor Justin Carre will benefit from their work on organic molecules.  Doctor Mike DeGagne, the president of Nipissing University says the grant helps the school continue its leading-edge research which will benefit all Canadians.  Degagne says as the post-secondary school celebrates its 25th anniversary, people can be proud of the ever-growing research culture that has evolved on the campus.  The President and CEO of the innovation fund also weighed in on the announcement.  Doctor Roseanne Runte says state-of-the art equipment and facilities play a key role to help today’s researchers make discoveries that further add to Canadian innovation.  Runte adds the facilities also help attract international staff and students.   In addition to the initial grant, Nipissing will also be given $106,000 from the CFI’s Infrastructure Operating Fund to help with ongoing operating and maintenance costs.
