Powassan Voodoos defenceman Justin Schebel headed to the NCAA

The Powassan Voodoos continue to churn out NCAA Division III hockey players. Justin Schebel, who joined the Voodoos in a trade with the Wellington Dukes back in December of 2016, has committed to the SUNY Cortland Red Dragons NCAA Division III program located in Cortland, New York. It’s the third straight year the Voodoos are graduating a defenceman to the NCAA.

Schebel, who was the only 20-year-old on the Voodoos roster, recorded one goal and six assists during the 12 game Voodoos NOJHL championship run this spring. The Brighton, Michigan product contributed one goal and five assists in 27 games during regular season play. Schebel says he really enjoyed his time playing, and winning a championship with the Voodoos. He added the staff treated him with respect, and gave him the tools he needed to be successful. Schebel also had two other NCAA programs courting him in 2017.

Schebel says his billets did everything they could to make sure he was well fed and had a good place to call home. He says his teammates welcomed him with open arms even though he joined the team late in the year, and added it was a special team that will not be soon forgotten. Schebel joins other Voodoos graduating defencemen James Vuillemot in 2015 (Western New England University) and Nicky Grose in 2016 (Utica College) in NCAA D III hockey next fall.
