There were no arrests, no charges and no injuries after a city police investigation in the area of Rose and Algonquin avenues Sunday.
The North Bay Police Service says just before 1 pm officers responded to a report of possible gunshots and sounds of distress in a multi-unit complex.
Several police units, including patrol officers, Criminal Investigations and the Emergency Response Team responded, along with paramedics to provide medical support.
As a precaution for public safety, police say residents were evacuated from the building while officers cleared all units.
After a thorough search of the complex, no evidence of firearms offences was located and the ‘all clear’ was given shortly after 5 pm, allowing residents to return to their homes.
“We take each and every call of this nature seriously and respond accordingly,” says Acting Deputy Chief Jeff Warner. “Our officers rely on their training and specialized tools to effectively resolve situations like this safely. This occurrence had a favourable outcome, and we commend all members involved for their professionalism.”
City police remind the public if you encounter an active police investigation, avoid the area and allow emergency responders to do their work safely.
“Capturing and posting live photos or videos during an active situation can compromise community safety and the safety of our members,” states a release.
