Local amateur musician’s song reaches International Songwriting Competition semifinals

A whimsical song and music video that is supporting Project Lifesaver has advanced to the semifinals of an International Songwriting Competition.

Stan French’s song “Being a Boomer Ain’t Bad” is included in the ‘Comedy/Novelty’ category of the Nashville, Tennessee contest.

Along with online voting for the People’s Voice winner, the song will be reviewed by established artists and music industry executives to decide the finalists and the winner of the $25,000 (USD) prize.

French is the President of BAYSAR Search and Rescue.

“Since the song’s release last May, the streams and views of the video have grown fairly steadily,” he says. “Project Lifesaver continues to grow as a valuable service to North Bay and area and my song that helps support Project Lifesaver has become a success right along with it. Just getting this far is more than I expected. Any further success for the song will hopefully translate to even more success for BAYSAR and Project Lifesaver.”

The song is available on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music, on French’s YouTube channel and his website, stanfrench.org.

Several groups benefit from the proceeds, including One Kids Place, the Alzheimer Society, and the Victorian Order of Nurses SMILE program, which all refer clients to BAYSAR and support families needing Project Lifesaver.
