More sandbag filling stations to open as city preps for potential shoreline flooding

The City of North Bay has made sand and sandbags available starting this weekend as the potential for flooding along the Lake Nipissing shoreline increases.

Officials say filling stations will be set up at Sunset Park at the end of Sunset Boulevard, and Champlain Park at the end of Premier Road.

Staff will be on-site at these locations from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday.

It’s in addition to the filling station already operating at Public Works on Franklin Street.

The City says while water levels have not yet reached flood damage thresholds, they could approach them next week depending on weather and lake conditions.

The City will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as conditions change.

Environment Canada issued a rainfall warning for the area on Friday afternoon.

The agency says 20 to 30 mm of rain is possible Saturday, as a cold front sweeps through the region.
