Nearly $200,000 raised to support CEC recovery efforts

Efforts supporting the recovery of the Canadian Ecology Centre (CEC) continue after the devastating storm in June 2025.

They were closed for nearly a year, reopening in May this year.

A Halloween fundraiser is being held Saturday at the Granite Club with the band Mid Life Crisis.

The goal of the ‘Save the CEC Campaign’ is $500,000.

Bill Steer, General Manager and founder of the CEC concept, says they’ve raised $200,000 so far.

He says the Dottori Family Foundation, provided a gift of $50,000 which was leveraged to double that amount.

“Mr. Dottori created a benevolent condition, and we took up the challenge,” says Steer. “From there other donors accepted the challenge. Five other donors contributed.

He adds the Save the CEC campaign was launched as they’re managing a financial challenge.

“Many people think we are government funded. Not so,” he says. “As a non-profit the accrued operating costs have added up, the contingency was used up during our closure.”
