Special Olympics ‘Draft an Athlete’ program benefiting from charity volleyball tournament

A charity mixed volleyball tournament is coming up in just over a week, in support of the 2027 Special Olympics Ontario Provincial Winter Games ‘Draft an Athlete’ program.

Proceeds from the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board event will help cover essential transportation, accommodations, meals, and more, for Special Olympics athletes competing in North Bay.

The deadline to register a team is Friday (Oct 30).

The tournament takes place Nov. 6-7 and is for those aged 18+, or 16+ with a parent/guardian signed waiver.

The cost is $250 per team, with up to 32 teams competing.

Those interested in entering a team are asked to contact Michelle Ricco at riccom@npsc.ca by Friday, October 30, 2026.

Officials say over the years, the tournament has helped raise almost $11,000 for local community initiatives.
