In an effort to create more mining jobs and increase mining safety, the province is funding two Sudbury-based research groups. One company is getting nearly $800,000 to create a canopy system that digs tunnels faster and keeps miners safe. And another research company has been given $100,000 to test filters that protect miners from underground pollutants and fumes. Both grants are from the Heritage Fund Corporation.
