Timmins-James Bay MP Charlie Angus is calling on the Noront board of directors to pick Timmins as the site for its Ring of Fire smelter. The New Democrat says the city has a skilled workforce and excellent transportation links. In addition, Angus says putting the smelter in Timmins would help consolidate the freight operations at Ontario Northland. Angus says Timmins already has an area that’s well suited for a smelter and it’s the Kidd-Metallurgical site. North Bay City Council recently passed a motion in support of the Timmins bid over contenders Sudbury, Sault Ste. Marie and Thunder Bay.
