Rising water levels make ice unsafe in Upper Sturgeon River

West Nipissing Police are warning people to stay off the ice in the Upper Sturgeon River.

Conditions may become hazardous because mechanical issues at the West Nipissing Power Generation plant are causing the water level to rise in the upper river.

Police say this will result in unsafe ice conditions.

If you’re an outdoor enthusiast who uses the Sturgeon River, police are strongly urging you to avoid the ice between Sturgeon Falls and Crystal Falls.

The plant is working with Ontario Power Generation and the municipality to fix the problem.
