The north’s first legal pot shop will soon have company

If you’ve been making the drive to Sudbury for legal cannabis, you will soon have some choice about where you shop.

Canna Cabana is open for business and is located in Sudbury’s south end and word is Highlife will open Friday. The store’s operator, Anton Lucic, was one of 25 successful applicants in the province’s pot lottery in January.

Both outlets had an April 1 deadline to open, set out by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario and both missed that date.

Highlife, set to open in New Sudbury, and Canna Cabana (operated by Saturninus Partners) have already been fined $12,500 each for missing the deadline. After going through background checks and providing supporting tax and financial documents, the winners of the lottery had to submit a $50,000 letter of credit plus a $6,000 non-refundable fee to the AGCO.
