It’s going to be a lot of small steps on the road to recovery.

That’s how North Bay police officer Gerry Martin is describing his life for the next while as he begins the recovery process following a serious injury.

Martin says he wants to keep details of the accident private but does say the accident resulted in a broken back, a punctured lung, some cracked ribs and a broken wrist.

The officer doesn’t want to focus on the accident and says it’s all about being positive moving forward.

Martin is thanking numerous people for their support and says it means a lot to him and his family.

Police Chief Scott Tod gets a big thank you.

Martin says after he got hurt, Tod was there lending support and was there as he headed into surgery.

Martin says the Chief provided him with reassurance at that time.

He says the community is in good hands with Tod at the helm.

Martin says he’s been blessed with many friends, an amazing family, coworkers and fellow professionals.

The people also taking care of him deserve thanks although Martin admits he can’t thank them enough.

Martin says the Go Fund Me account has given people a way to express their support and sympathy over what’s happened.

He says that support means a great deal to him and adds he finds it overwhelming.

As for his future progress, Martin says he’d like to keep details of his progress private moving ahead with only his family and closest friends in the know.
