North Bay Walk of Fame announces five new inductees

The Kiwanis Club of Nipissing is pleased to announce the 2019 class for the North Bay Walk of Fame.

This year will mark the fourth class to be inducted to the Walk of Fame, with honourees George Couchie, Ralph Diegel, Mort Fellman, Murray Leatherdale and Jack Lockhart. Each one of the honourees has been chosen for bringing some form of fame to, or for contributing greatly to the well-being of the city over the years.

“The Walk of Fame began about a dozen years ago in the planning stages,” Walk of Fame committee chair Ralph Celentano said. “We have had three previous installations of a number of North Bay citizens and they have all been recognized with plaques downtown North Bay on the sidewalks. We are now ready to present the next list of nominees and honour them with an induction ceremony and dinner on Friday, November 8th at the Grande.”

Previous honourees include Keith Campbell, Ed Eng, Mike Harris, Jack Burrows, Giles Blunt, Bruce Goulet, Susan Hay, Sam Jacks, and Lynn Johnston.

“This year, we have a cross-section of individuals who span decades,” Celentano explained. “Many different genres, visual artists, educators, historians, founders, builders. What separates them from other folks is the fact that the work that they’ve done is recognized provincially, on a national level or internationally in some cases. That’s what the program does is reflect positively on our community and the work that they have done on their own behalf and in the community itself. We have a privilege and opportunity to recognize these citizens as a service club every other year.”

For those interested in the event, the plaques will be unveiled downtown at 4:15pm on November 8, with cocktails at 6:00pm and a dinner to follow at 7:00pm. Tickets to the dinner are $75 and it will be held at the Grande Event Centre.

MyNorthBayNow.com will compile weekly profiles of the members of the 2019 Walk of Fame class in the lead-up to the induction ceremony.
