North Bay receives $747,000 in COVID-19 relief

The City of North Bay is receiving over $747,000 in funding from the provincial government.

It comes as part of a $1.1 million COVID-19 relief package for the Nipissing District through the provincial and federal governments.

“The City of North Bay is very appreciative of the ongoing support it has received from Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli and the Ontario Government,” said Mayor Al McDonald. “This funding will alleviate pressure on our budget and ensure that the City is able to continue to make important investments and provide the services that people need.”

This is new funding on top of the Safe Restart Agreement funding municipalities received in August and December.

“Our government recognizes that the pandemic has created significant financial challenges for communities in our area,” stated Vic Fedeli, MPP for Nipissing. “Our municipalities have been clear that they need additional operating funding in 2021, and it’s important that we step up and provide more financial relief. At the same time, we need the federal government to join us and provide our municipal partners with the additional support they deserve.”

11 Nipissing municipalities will receive a portion of the $1.1 million investment. It is part of a $500 million investment by the Ontario government into its 444 municipalities.

The funding breakdown for the area is:

  • North Bay: $747,129
  • Bonfield: $39,371

  • Calvin: $21,256
