Donation request calls are not coming from police

The North Bay Police Association says it is not making calls asking for significant cash donations.

Both the North Bay Police Service and it’s member association say victims have recently been receiving fraudulent calls, with scammers claiming to be raising funds for local causes.

Police say the scammers claim they will attend the victim’s address in the coming days to get the money.

Anyone receiving one of these calls is asked to hang up and block the number.

Police also request anyone who received a call and made a donation to report the incident to the North Bay Police Service at 705-497-5555 or anonymously via Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or www.nearnorthcrimestoppers.com.
