Special Air Quality Statement

Smoke is causing or expected to cause poor air quality and reduced visibility.

High levels of air pollution have developed due to smoke from forest fires.

Smoke plumes from local forest fires as well as forest fires in eastern Ontario and Quebec and Quebec have resulted in deteriorated air quality. Poor air quality may persist through the day for some areas.

Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour.

NOTICE OF HEAVY SMOKEWe continue to see heavy smoke conditions in the Northeast Region due to a large number of fires in eastern Ontario and Quebec. Smoke drift is travelling as far as north of Timmins, down through Sudbury and past Parry Sound.

Visit www.firesmoke.ca to see smoke forecasts for your area. Any health-related concerns about smoke, please call Ontario Health at 811 or 1-866-797-0007.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF) Restricted Fire Zone remains in place until further notice. No open air burning, including campfires, is permitted within the boundaries of a Restricted Fire Zone. Portable gas or propane stoves may be used for cooking and warmth BUT must be handled with extreme caution. All burning permits are suspended.
