Cassellholme decision will take time

Cassellholme looks to be one step closer to becoming a Not for Profit.

City councillor and chair of the Casselholme board, Chris Mayne, says they accepted a subcommittee report yesterday to support the proposed board move to Not for Profit.  Mayne says nothing further can be done until a business case is crafted, and presented for public discussion. Mayne says of the three proposals submitted, moving to a not for profit is the preferred option.

Mayne says one of the reasons they favor the move to a not for profit is the funding.

Union officials representing the workers at the facility have been adamant they aren’t interested in working under the new model. Fred Hahn, Ontario president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees, says among the options are cooperative governance models where several municipalities operate Cassellholme under public delivery.  Hahn says these models should be discussed fully with the community in North Bay and broader Nipissing.
