Today is Cybertip.ca Awareness Day

North Bay Police are asking residents to help keep kids safe. Today is Cybertip.ca Awareness Day 2016. It’s the fifth annual Cybertip.ca awareness day, Canada’s tip line for reporting online sexual exploitation of children.

North Bay Police are supporting this initiative and encourage local parents and guardians to visit Cybertip.ca. To find valuable resources on how to protect children from online sexual exploitation and on how to report concerns about suspicious online activity. A recent study conducted by the Canadian Centre examined over 150,000 reports, including almost 45,000 unique images and videos classified as child pornography.

Nearly 80 per cent of the images assessed by Cybertip.ca depicted children under 12 years old. Almost 70 per cent of these images appeared to have been taken within a home setting. North Bay Police are encouraging North Bay and Callander parents, guardians, early childhood educators, teachers, and coaches to visit Cybertip.ca and get informed.
