Land that the Dionne Home sits on sold to Grant Castle Corp for $1.68 million

After the public portion of city council ended last night, Councillor’s adjourned in-camera. When they emerged, they approved the sale of the land where the Dionne Quints Home sits to Grant Castle Corp. for $1.68 million.

Councillor Daryl Vaillancourt wanted to make clear before council finished for the night that the sale did not mean the review committee to find a suitable location for the Dionne Home in North Bay wouldn’t get their chance. However, the Dionne Home must be moved by June 1st. Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette was happy about the development, considering the final bid came in way ahead of the original value place on the home which was around $900,000.

Forgette says Grant Castle Corp. has plans to put in a service station, car wash and a potential restaurant. He also clarified some details of the deal, saying they have to start development within a certain time frame, and if they don’t the City will take back ownership of the land. Forgette says they do that on purpose so that there is no holding and speculation of the land, because the city wants to see these lands get developed and used. Forgette finished by saying money being invested in the city is always a good thing.
