Cystic Fibrosis Canada’s North Bay Chapter is hosting the Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History this Sunday. The walk starts at the Kiwanis Band shell before heading into Lee Park. Registration is at 9:00am, opening ceremonies follow at 10:00am and the walk gets started at 10:30am. Cystic fibrosis is the most common fatal genetic disease among Canadian children and young adults, and officials hope by raising funds at events like these they can find a cure. Walk spokesperson Macrina Perron says a simple act can go a long way, and by joining the walk or sponsoring a participant, they can make strides in making CF history.

In the 1960s, most Canadian children with CF did not live long enough to attend kindergarten. Now, the median age of survival of Canadians with CF is among the highest in the world at just over 52 years. The Walk to Make Cystic Fibrosis History will host thousands of participants in over 65 locations across the country. The walks take place every May during Cystic Fibrosis Awareness Month, to raise awareness about the disease and raise funds for CF research, care and advocacy initiatives.
