Mayor directed to decline to exercise powers/perform duties with city police services board

The North Bay Police Service Board says the Inspector General of Policing has started an investigation into the actions of board member Peter Chirico in relation to the Community Safety and Policing Act.

As a result, officials say Chirico has been directed by the Inspector General (IG) to decline to exercise his powers or perform his duties as a Board Member as of August 1st, until further notice.

The Board says it will continue to undertake its governance role without Chirico while the IG’s direction continues to apply.

In June, Chirico asked the Integrity Commissioner to investigate his expenses.

At that time, he said the finance department felt about $16,000 in expenses from 2023 and 2024 should not have been claimed as city expenses.

All of the money was paid back.
