City man charged after $500,000 theft investigation

A 38-year-old North Bay man is facing charges after a theft and fraud investigation involving a large industrial operation northeast of Cochrane.

It’s estimated to be worth $500,000.

Ontario Provincial Police with the James Bay Detachment say the investigation, which began at the end of January, involved a former employee and covered a period of two-and-a-half to three years.

The OPP says large quantities of building materials, tools and electrical and plumbing equipment were obtained through purchasing channels.

They were then shipped to North Bay for personal use.

A city man is charged with four counts each of fraud over $5,000 and theft over $5,000.

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cochrane on March 24.
