West Nipissing CAO highlights work done by current council

Officials with the Municipality of West Nipissing are reflecting on four years of ‘progress, challenges, collaboration and investment’.

This as the 2022–2026 term of Council comes to a close.

“This Council began its term at a pivotal moment in the Municipality’s history,” says Mike Pilon, Chief Administrative Officer. “Council inherited the findings of the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing’s Administrative Policies, Practices and Procedures Review, while also facing the ongoing needs of a growing community. Rather than viewing these recommendations as challenges, Council embraced them as opportunities to strengthen and modernize municipal government.”

With governance, he says new and updated policies and by-laws were adopted, along with enhanced accountability measures, improved decision-making processes, and more.

“These improvements establish a stronger foundation for future Councils, municipal staff and residents,” says Pilon. “By strengthening governance and administrative practices, Council has positioned the organization for continued improvement and success.”

While also planning for the long-term, he adds significant progress was made on several priorities, including investments in roads and bridges, water and wastewater infrastructure, municipal facilities, parks and recreational amenities.

“The projects completed, policies implemented and strategic investments made throughout this term reflect a collective commitment to leaving West Nipissing stronger than it was four years ago.”

The final report into the term is available on the municipal website.
