K9 Moka is on duty.

Victim Services of Nipissing and the North Bay Police Service say Moka, an 18-month-old standard poodle is their newest generation support dog.

Officials say she brings a calm presence and gentle demeanour to her role, having been specially selected, trained, and certified after being donated through the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides.

Along with providing comfort and emotional support to individuals affected by crime and tragedy, she will also assist with community events and support the wellness of city police service members.

“Support dogs like Moka are a valuable resource in assisting investigations and victim services, as well as in promoting member wellness,” says Chief Daryl Longworth. “Her presence will have a meaningful impact in the community and with our members.”

City police say you may begin to see Moka in the community alongside her handler.

They say she is community-friendly, and everyone is encouraged to say hello when they see her out and about.

K9 Chewie retired last month.
