Sasquatch conference set for Saturday

Sasquatch, Sabe, Bigfoot, or Yeti. Whatever you call it, there will be a sighting of believers this weekend in North Bay.

‘Bringing Awareness and Embracing Reality’ is the title of Saturday’s Sasquatch conference.

It takes place from 10 am to 5 pm, in the hall at St. Brice’s Anglican Church on Cassells St.

Officials say it’s an opportunity to bring together like-minded people, with an open forum and an array of speakers.

“Basically, it’s different researchers going over their research or people going over their research, encounters, stories, beliefs and spiritual background and theories on Sasquatch,” says Andrew MacKellar, organizer.

While there have been events in Ottawa and Toronto, he says it appears this will be the first northern conference on the subject in quite some time.

“I noticed there seemed to be a spike of Sasquatch reportings around the Great Lakes, in Canada and the United States and I wanted to see if that was the case locally, too. It seems to be,” says MacKellar.

He adds there’s a historical connection to the existence of Sabe/Sasquatch in Ontario.

Speakers will discuss the history of how the media have embraced Sasquatch over time and how its image has changed, along with exploratory research, adventures and findings in eastern Ontario, and more.

There is also a reporting booth for recording sightings.

“It’ll help Ontario Sasquatch in case they don’t have those reportings yet,” says MacKellar. “It just helps for mapping out sightings, locations where they may be going or staying.”

Admission is free.
