Nipissing Serenity Hospice’s 2026 Hike for Hospice already surpassed its fundraising goal by more than $20,000 after the in-person event on Friday.

The hybrid event continued throughout the Thanksgiving weekend, with people able to walk in their own neighbourhoods, and donations still coming in.

“We’re incredibly proud to have raised more than $145,700 so far this year and there are more still donations coming in,” says Bernadette Lindsay, Fund Development Coordinator at Nipissing Serenity Hospice. “Every dollar raised helps support the free care and services provided by Nipissing Serenity Hospice. It’s especially meaningful to see returning families, teams and community partners come back year after year, alongside new supporters who are helping us make an even greater impact.”

This was the 11th annual Hike for Hospice, which has raised more than $960,000 since it began.

The event was deeply personal for Rob Brownlee, Hike Ambassador. His wife, Cindy, received care at Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

“The efforts they made to make my wife Cindy’s stay comfortable were beyond our expectations,” he says. “How the facility accommodated our family and friends, from my two-year-old grandson to my 92-year-old mother, comforted all of us through our difficult experience.”

Officials say Nipissing Serenity Hospice provides free palliative care and support services to people of all ages at the end of their life, along with support for their families and loved ones.
