These lights could probably melt your garden gnomes

It turns out leaving solar-powered lights in the yard that act as virtual magnifying glasses when capturing the sun’s rays is dangerous.

Moonrays brand mystic globe and snow globe stake lights sold in Canada are being recalled by the company due to heat-related damage to nearby property. Grass, deck posts, and house siding are among the reported items affected. So far, no injuries have been reported.

The Chinese manufacturers voluntarily reported the problem when it was learned light refraction through the stake lights can singe or melt items in contact with, or in the immediate proximity of the lights, posing a fire hazard.

The Moonrays lights are lawn and garden decorations with plastic globes mounted on a metal stake that can be inserted into the ground. Water and antifreeze allow glitter inside the globe to float.

The lights were available at home improvement and hardware stores nationwide and online from August 2016 through March 2017 for about $20.
