The strike for Ontario’s colleges will continue, approaching five full weeks without classes.
Faculty members have voted “no” to the latest offer from the College Employer’s Council. The longest strike in the history of Ontario’s colleges is affecting 500,000 students across the province, including 3,500 at Canadore College.
The colleges responded to the result with a united front, saying as a next step, the college bargaining team will be in touch with the provincially appointed mediator to seek his direction to the parties.
John Patterson, the local faculty union representative says that he has been assured that Premier Kathleen Wynne wants the labour impasse settled this weekend so that students can get back to classes.
“The colleges have been told that it’s time to wrap this up, or the Premier will do it herself,” adds Patterson.
The Ontario government is tabling back to work legislation to force college faculty back to class, but that process could take a few days.
