Legislature shutdown costs Fedeli forestry bill

Interim Leader of the Official Opposition and Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli says that his Private Member’s Bill that aims to support forestry in the north will die on the Order Paper.

This comes after the announcement of a throne speech to be delivered by Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal government Monday, requiring that the legislature is prorogued (or shut down) in advance of this procedural move.

Fedeli’s Bill 169, the Ontario Forestry Revitalization Act (14-Storey Wood Buildings) had been slated for Second Reading debate on March 29 but will be a casualty of the prorogation.

Wynne says all government motions and bills existing prior to the shutdown will be re-introduced to the legislature.

Fedeli says the prorogue is a needless move by the Premier, who in turn says that the throne speech Monday will serve an opportunity for her government to outline priorities in the lead-up to the June 7 election.
