The North Bay Police Service says it was a great success and is sending a big “thank you,” to those who participated in the annual Law Enforcement Torch run, especially the Special Olympics athletes.

Last Wednesday, approximately 100 people took part in the yearly Torch Run including our Special Olympian athletes and students from local high schools. Law Enforcement is the Guardian of the Flame for this courageous group of Special Olympic athletes.

North Bay Police joined members from the North Bay Fire and Emergency Services, Nipissing Paramedic Services, the MNRF, the Ontario Provincial Police, the West Nipissing Police and the Greater Sudbury Police Service in supporting this fundraising event.

A total of $1,555 was raised from the sale of T-shirts and the BBQ that followed outside the Discovery North Bay Museum.

Special Olympics is excited to announce that we have nine local athletes (see photos below) that will be competing at this summer’s national games. They will take place from July 31 to August 4, in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.
