On accessible ballots and advanced polls

The City of North Bay says it is committed to making the municipal election accessible to all citizens by providing services that respect the dignity and independence of persons with disabilities.

In addition to providing voters with the option to vote by proxy, the City Clerk’s office will also provide accessible ballot-marking devices for independent voting at all advance polls. The Voter Assist Terminal (VAT) offers multiple ways for voters to interact and make choices on the ballot: directly on the touch screen, the keypad (includes braille), Sip-N-Puff device, and audio headphones.

Chair of the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee Nora Long says, “On behalf of MAAC, we would like to express our gratitude for being included, and invited to participate in a project as important as the ability to choose our political leaders. I can only imagine how members of our community must feel as the barriers are removed at the voting poles. This barrier-free environment provides inclusion for our community with the accessibility to participate in such an important event.”
