Security upgrades coming to the North Bay Courthouse

At yesterday’s Police Board meeting, Police Chief Shawn Devine revealed that the North Bay courthouse will have a new look, perhaps as soon as the new year.

Devine says a project, spearheaded by the Ministry of the Attorney General, has identified North Bay as an area where courthouse security will be streamlined and beefed up.

City police will assume responsibility for staffing a reconfigured one-point entry system. Devine says a magnetometer will be set up to prevent weapons from being transported into the building.

The police chief says the security set-up has become common in southern Ontario but said no recent incident has spurred the change at the courthouse.
