City engineers a response to ‘Fake Snowgate’

The City of North Bay welcomed many partners from the film industry to City Hall, Monday, and the fallout over the banning of one type of fake snow used in productions seems to have lost momentum.

Several film industry types took to the podium, expressing support for the decision to ban the chemical that City Managing Director Engineering, Environmental Service & Works David Euler says scorched vegetation at the waterfront when used on location.

Derek Diorio, who has worn many hats in the film industry, says he has taken to calling the whole ordeal “Fake Snowgate.”

The concern has been the ban on the one type of fake snow would discourage Christmas movies from filming in North Bay, with the loss of revenue potentially huge from an industry that has brought tens of millions to town.
