Laurier Woods Conservation Area reopens

According to the North Bay-Mattawa Conservation Authority, the Laurier Woods Conservation Area is now open after being closed last Friday due to flooding.

Rising water levels had prompted the closure of Laurier Woods by the NBMCA. Sue Buckle, communications and outreach manager for the NBMCA says “the culverts have been cleared and the water level has dropped.”

It is believed that beavers caused the flooding by blocking a culvert on the ONR line west of Laurier Avenue.

Water levels had risen along the main trail making boardwalks and pathways unsafe for use, leading to the decision to close the conservation area this past weekend until the culvert was cleared and the water levels returned to safe levels.
