Exile on Main Street: advocate shines a light on labour issues

Emboldened by the denial of her attempt to speak at Queen’s Park, a local labour advocate spoke instead in front of Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli’s office.

Arlene Phillips, a volunteer with Nipissing Decent Work and
the Fight for $15 and Fairness, says she and many others had their petitions for speaking time at a scheduled committee hearing on Bill 47 refused.

“People like me helped sign almost 1,000 signatures to a petition asking our MPP Vic Fedeli not to support Doug Ford’s attack on low wage workers,” said Phillips.

“Mr. Fedeli refused to read the petition into session at Queens Park. Why is our MPP not acknowledging the people of his riding? Jamie West, MPP for Sudbury, took our voice into consideration and read the petition into Parliament.”
