Ice fishing community must be vigilant to combat thefts

Since the calendar flipped to 2019, North Bay OPP says the detachment has responded to several complaints of ice fishing shacks being broken into.

Most of the reports of theft have come from the Callander Bay area of Lake Nipissing.

Police say getting to know your neighbours is a good security measure but so is not leaving anything of value inside your shack.

Detachment Commander Bill McMullen says the ice fishing community should work together to combat theft, reminding the public to call police if they anything suspicious on the lakes.

Acting Staff Sergeant Bill McMullen, Detachment Commander of the North Bay OPP, suggests to “work together as an ice fishing community to help combat theft. If you see someone suspicious call the OPP.”
